My Perinatal Self Care Workbook

The first edition of the workbook was launched in October 2023, since then a second edition has been published and is now widely available through the Specialist Perinatal Mental Health Team and Acute and Community Mental Health Teams.


Acute Mental Health Services


Supporting a loved one with mental health challenges who is acutely unwell and admitted to an Acute Psychiatric Unit can be a very anxious time. The purpose of this course is to provide families carers and supporters with everything they need to know about their loved one’s admission to an acute psychiatric unit; providing clear, accurate information on admissions, MDT and treatment, care-planning, discharge planning, patient rights, information sharing and confidentiality, safety while on the unit, together with self-care tips.

    By families, carers and supporters of people using the Acute Mental Health Services, people who use the Acute Services and Mental Health staff in response to an identified need to provide information and support to those caring for a person admitted to a psychiatric unit.

    Includes jargon busting and a video walk through of the Acute Psychiatric Unit, University Hospital Limerick where you can meet the people who work there. Self Care


This comprehensive online course is designed to help you prioritise your self care and empower you to take key steps to make self care a daily practice, supporting your mental health, enhancing your sense of wellbeing and combatting stress.

    The course helps you understand what self care looks like, why it’s important for our mental health and well-being and how we can ensure that taking care of ourselves becomes a daily habit and practice.

    The course takes you through the 4 basic areas of wellness including Physical, Emotional, Social & Intellectual, allowing you to build your own personalised self care toolkit.

    Throughout the course you will find moments to hit the pause button and enjoy a short guided meditation. There is also a interactive section on Mindfulness techniques.

Community Mental Health


This guide is designed to give you a basic understanding of occupational therapy and it’s role in mental health recovery from the perspective of staff and people using the service. It is a Mid West Community Healthcare Mental Health Service initiative, published by Mid West ARIES in partnership with Mid West Mental Health Occupational Therapy Service.
