Maternal Mental Health – Self Care for Young Mums

L to R: Noelle, Recovery Education Facilitator, Mid West ARIES; Kathleen, Co-Facilitator, Limerick Primary Healthcare Traveller Project; Teresa, Co-Facilitator, Limerick Primary Healthcare Traveller Project; and Margaret, Education, Training & Development Officer, Mid West ARIES.

We had a great morning yesterday co-facilitating our “Self Care, Building My Resilience” Workshop with Teresa and Kathleen, project workers from the Limerick City Traveller Health Programme for the City Slickers Group of young mothers in the LSSC Child & Family Centre, Roxborough. It was a pleasure to meet a wonderful group of resilient, inspiring young mums. As we always say in ARIES “the wisdom is in the room”, and it certainly was on this occasion.

We were particularly delighted to run this workshop in partnership with the Limerick City Traveller Health Programme and LSSC (Limerick Social Services Centre). Over the last few months we have trained a number of Primary Care Traveller Health Project Workers in Limerick and Clare in facilitation skills and personal narrative training, to give them the tools to co-facilitate our mental health and wellbeing education programme to target groups. This was the first workshop co-facilitated by ARIES and PHTP to a community group and given the feedback from attendees it was a huge success which we hope to build upon in the future.
